Ice Skate Baking

Modern day skates feel pretty great out of the box, but in order to get a near custom fit, we highly recommend baking skates that are suitable for the process. In fact we feel this is so important, that it is FREE OF CHARGE for all boots brought from us. We recommend getting this process done on a day that you are not intending to use your skates, as we advise 24 hours cooldown before use.

If you haven’t bought your boots from us, don’t worry, we will bake the boots for a charge of £20!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION (FAQ)

  • What is skate baking or heat moulding?

Skate baking is a controlled heating process that softens the boot’s thermoformable materials, allowing it to mould closely to your foot for a near‑custom fit.

  • Are all skates suitable for baking?

No — only thermoformable boots can be safely heat‑moulded.

Entry‑level or recreational skates often cannot be baked, as the materials aren’t designed for heat.

  • What are the benefits of baking my skates?

    Heat moulding helps:

    • Reduce heel lift
    • Eliminate pressure points
    • Improve overall comfort
    • Speed up the break‑in process
    • Enhance energy transfer and responsiveness

  • How long before I can skate on freshly baked boots?

Willies recommends waiting 24 hours before skating to allow the materials to fully set.

  • Do I need to book an appointment?

No booking is required — simply bring your skates into the store and the team will handle the process.
