If you’re born after 1975, visors are now mandatory. All players under 18 are required to wear complete face protection in the form of either a full face shield or a cage. 

Visors provide excellent eye and nose protection but leave the jaw, cheekbones and teeth exposed to rogue sticks, skates and pucks. While they mostly provide excellent vision with limited blind spots, a common issue with visors is visibility issues when it gets scratched or fogged up. Full visors deliver the best of both worlds, with a clear visor around the eyes for maximum visibility and a breathable cage near the mouth to reduce fogging. They are usually lighter than cages but are still prone to fogging and scratches.
